This was my "cherry" race in 2006, and I'm back for the fifth time.

Who else is in?

I might be.  I remember riding down PCH and saw a bunch of cars with their TT bikes from race coming back, and was jealous about not going.  Is it a good race?

Right down the road from my house, but I won't be doing it this year.   Santa Cruz OLY is the next weekend.  You guys have fun!

It is a good race, especially if you're a beginner or looking for a really fast course.  Open water swim but virtually no surf or chop.  Bike course is wide and relatively flat, except for the Queen's Way bridge which you hit twice each direction.  Run course is on the bike path along the marina, dead flat.

Oh, and the winner last year was Chris McCormack.  Yeah, that guy...

I haven't paid yet, but I am in!  Can't wait to see if I can beat my time from last year!  It falls on my birthday this year...what better way to celebrate?!

I am doing this one but think that I may be DFL. I am doing the Tri-Rock series in San Diego the week before.  The bridge is very deceptive and is longer than it looks. Also, I am stoked because LB Tri Club was just named the sponsor club/host club for this race (which I just signed up for)

Glad to hear that you're an LB Tri Club member! I am too. I too just signed up for the LB Tri. It was my first race in 2007 and I've been wanting to do it again. Such a great course!

I think I'm too slow for the pace of the Sunday bricks, so I've never done one...plus...I'd never have a pink bike! I've been to a couple of the socials. I've been meaning to get to a Monday bay swim, but haven't been able to. Hope to the week after next.

The Sunday bricks are at your own pace, and it is a really flat ride (down the river bed to PCH, then down PCH), plus they have another group that does a shorter ride. I am probably going to he swim next Monday. I will see you there.

The girl who has the pink bike, I forget her name, has done a bunch of like 70 mile rides and such

I've never done anything near a 70 mile ride...so good for her! That's awesome! No I am super, duper, very back of the pack slow. My bike average is about 14 mph and my runs are about 14 or 15 minute miles! I'll get there someday!

I average a little over 15 on the rides so I am right there with you. I will not comment on the run, because last time I ran, I saw snails laughing as the lapped me

I'm about to register, it's going to be my first tri. It seems like a pretty good race, with longer distances than most sprints, but a very flat course. Definitely looking forward to it. Two questions though, how big is the field usually (super crowded?) and do they provide wave specific swim caps or should I just bring my own (doesn't seem to mention on the site).

The swim was very crowded. Waves were sent like 3-5 minutes apart. I remember in the course of 14 minutes catching many people in the wave ahead of me, and having people in the wave behind me catch me as well. The beginning and end were the worst, but the middle wasn't as bad since the field could spread out a bit in the water. The bike course wasn't bad because the streets are closed to traffic, so there are several lanes to ride in. As for the run, I'm not sure...most people were done when I was running!

As for swim caps, they will give you one for your wave during packet pick up.

It really wasn't bad.  I stayed to the outside on the swim which meant I had to swim a bit further, but didn't have to deal with crowding.  There was a lot of overlap between waves though.  As stated in the previous post, the bike course wasn't crowded.  You had the entire street for the bike.  However, it isn't totally flat.  There is a bridge that you go over so you go uphill 4 times.  It isn't too bad but it would stink to come to it if you are expecting flat.  The run, however, is totally flat.  It did feel a bit crowded at times to me.  Overall, it is super fun!

The bridge can be super deceptive coming back toward Shoreline. That way is along uphill, alsoI heard that there is a bugger of a hill right out of transition right after the mount area. Is this true, cause I heard a lot of people will walk their bike up the hill, is this true?

Yes there is a hill but it is just a short driveway type hill.  I don't remember seeing anyone walking up it.  If you put your bike in a fairly easy gear it shouldn't be a problem.  I am bad with distances, but I think it is maybe 30yds long or so.  It was more an issue coming down it and making sure to get the bike stopped. I never can remember how to insert a picture but I will try.  Below should be a pic of the hill (coming down it into T2)

Okay, so the pic didn't work.  Let me try again.  Also, I guess it is a bit longer than 30yds.

Isn't it for charity or something?  If it's a good event I'm willing to pay for it.

Oh, I am talking just about the active.com fees. Not the race fees. Race for charity=cool. Active making a zillion bucks off of it by tacking on fees and such=bad
