Hi Team!

Looks to me like we have an awesome and very diverse team!

This is all about fun, fitness, encouragement and motivation!

I have 'volunteered' (lol) to be the lead elf. But I will be counting on all of you to motivate and inspire your fellow teamates. This is all about fun and motivating each other!

I would encourage you to put your team members in your log as BT friends - its a great way to help remember to reach out with those notes of inspiration and encouragement about their workouts - or in some cases, just to make someone smile or laugh!

Please take a few minutes to post an introduction and tell us a little bit about who you are, what your goals are and stuff like that.

I'm really looking forward to this challenge and getting to know all of you!

I'm going to quote Super Dee (organizer of the November challenge) on the subject of smack talk - because, well I can assure you there will be smack talk a plenty!

"Smack talking:
-- Smack talking is not mandatory, but may be done. (Advance warning: I get a kick out of it. So expect to hear some from me) (and me says Beth)!)
-- Smack talk is different from a personal attack. If you aren’t sure what the difference is, err on the side of caution and do not post the comment. (Keep in mind that real people are reading your comments!)
-- Smack talking is not to be taken personally. If you get upset about a post, ignore it and move on.
-- If you find a post offensive, and cannot simply ignore it: Walk away from the computer until you feel better, OR better yet, go for a good workout. A hard workout does wonders for your perspective."

So, with that said - let's Swimmy Swim, Swim!!!!!!!

Go Reindeers!

Hello fellow Reindeer! I am excited to do this.

About myself. I live in Utah and thought that this challenge would give me some extra motivation to get in the pool. My goal is 30,000 yards which might be tough with the holidays (pool closings) plus I will be in Montana for about 5 days of cross country skiing. So you may not hear from me the 6th - 10th. Swimming is my weakest event and want to improve this area thus the challenge! Plan on doing my first Ironman in Lake Placid this July so I better put in the time. Yeah and smack talking is alright by me. I am in the military and have heard and dished out plentyof it.

So, I guess I should post an intro myself -

My name is Beth -

I love to swim!  My goal is 35,000 yds, as swimming is currently my best option for training (biking and running are out for 2- 3 more weeks - darn foot!)

I've been looking forward to the December swim challenge since the September swim challenge - LOL

I live in Omaha Nebraska, I am the mother of three wonderful kids J, K, and C (boy, girl, boy) 18, 17, and 12 respectively.

O.K., I know at least half the team already.  This should be fun.

Alrighty then:

1.  I'm a morning person.  I have a long commute in the morning and typically wake up at 4:30 or 5 in the morning.  That's when I typically post and at night after the kids are to bed.

2.  I consider myself a non-swimmer.  My first tri was not pleasant.  My first open water swim, I did freestyle for about 150 yds, then sidestroked and backstroked out to close to the turnaround point.  A lifeguard asked me if I was doing o.k.  I said 'no.'  She said 'swim over here and rest on this float.'  I did.  We chatted until I got my breath back.  Swam the rest of the way back doing breastroke and sidestroke.  It was a humiliating experience, but I completed the 705 yd distance, and that's what mattered, but it took me about 28 minutes to finish.  But I finished.  Since then, I've done several sprints and an Oly.  I plan on doing a half iron this June.

3.  Beth (lastcall2003) and Cat (kagphin) are chatty.  They and others kept our November Challenge thread alive, TEAM 'They Who Shall Not Be Named,' fondly known as the Twisnibbins.  I am not chatty, but like cheesecake.

4.  I have a half marathon coming up next month and a marathon in May (Fargo, you coming up Noz?), so swimming will not be my main emphasis.  But I do enjoy getting to the pool.  I'm only swimming twice a week, but my workouts will be up to 2800 yds, so if I miss one, I'm screwed, and I EXPECT my teammates to give me grief if I do.

5.  I look forward to this challenge.  We've got a lot of good swimmers here...Cat, Pam (barqhead), Beth, Noz, and I'm sure many more.  Feel free to impart your wisdom on us non-swimmers .

6.  There is no #6.

7.  Happy swimming everyone.  We'll get through this high calorie season.

8.  Oh, and I eat lots of Little Debbie snacks, especially Oatmeal Creme Pies, because Nicole does.

9.  And 'LOL' is allowed here.

Hellooo, Reindeer!

My name is Pam and I too was on the notorious Twinsnibbins challenge team. But I spent too much time chatting (and working) and not enough time working out. My goal for December is to swim 30,000 yards. I should be able do this since I work at a pool as a lifeguard, swim instructor, and lifeguard instructor.

As you can guess from my occupation, I come from a swimming background. Used to be a competitive swimmer from the age of 10-18. My strongest part of triathlon is the bike. My weakness is running, but guess what? I'm injured.

I am a married mom of two living in South Carolina. Looking forward to getting to know all of you and having the lingering aroma of chlorine following me wherever I go!

Hey fellow Reindeers!

I'm Kathy, mom to 5 living in MA. Swimming is by far my worst part of tris even after 4 years and lots of lessons. Like Pam I'm best on the bike and really like that most. I'm doing an Ironman next summer and really don't want to have a 1.75 to 2 hour swim.

For the month I'm focusing in on drills and improving my technique so my goal is in time as drilling is weird/slow in the pool. My goal is 11 hours and in the last 2 years my two highest swim months were just over 9. I didn't swim for 8 weeks due to surgery and trying to get/keep my shoulder that I seperated in a bike race crash happy...may be challenging to swim/drill as it is acting up again.

Tomorrow I'm going to a 4 hour swim clinic (only about an hour will be in the pool). I hope to get some insight and help so I can get better. I plan on following up with the same coaches at Saturday Masters which is about 45 minute drive from me but I need the help.

Sorry about the ice, Beth. Makes my reason of not wanting to get in the head with a beach ball or slapped in the face with a foam noodle more of a wuss-out not to swim.

party in fargo = fargo marathon/half marathon.  sal and i ran but did not meet each other   if you are used to cold weather, it's a treat!

state of iowa is iced over as well, looking like i'm going to start swimming on monday!

LOL - I figured it was something of that sort ;-)

I'm actually starting to be hopeful that I will be able to swim today - it's turned to rain and is warming up - an hour or so more and I should be good to go :-)

Sorry about the ice, Beth. Makes my reason of not wanting to get in the head with a beach ball or slapped in the face with a foam noodle more of a wuss-out not to swim.

LMAO!!!!

is your pool full of Noodle ladies tossing beach balls as a part of their aerobic routine?

LMAO. No, but it is full of swimming lessons and kiddie birthday parties on Saturdays.
