I live in Charleston and am excited about the sprint series that we have here. This will be my first year doing triathlons. I always ran, and rode the bike but like many others the swim is killer. I surf a lot and thought that would help, but I dont think it has done me any good. I was looking at the workouts that are posted on this site and was wondering if these are the ones that you all use. And if not I would love some sugestions I always like to add new things in my scedule. Well enjoy these last days of winter, the season is almost here.

Welcome to the site. I have sort of made my own schedule out and follow that. I swim mon-fri and altenate biking and running on those days but I have a lot of time on my hands. But I know a lot of people use the training programs here. Good luck on your goals.

I'm not sure how old you are (and if you are in school or not) but I'm in high school. I get to the YMCA when it opens at 5 everday and in the afternoons i alternate between biking and running. I also manage to fit work in there somewhere. Everybody's schedule is going to be different. I have found it easier to stick to a schedule if I set a designated time everyday to exercise so it's harder to just blow it off. ;-)

I found a basic schedule at www.vaam-power.com and modified it with the help of this site and Joe Friel's book "Tri Training Bible". Basically I swim in the morning, alternate run and bike afternoons with most at low intensity picking 2 high intensity workout s on the low mileage days per week. One full rest day. A heart monitor keeps me honest and verifies i am not overtraining. Overall, my 24 week plan, cycles in 3 weeks of build and 1 week rest (half load). My plan constanly gets modified and I change it to suit my mood and schedule, but having it on paper keeps me motivated and on top of my progress.

Welcome to this great site, and Good luck with your first year of tri's!

Hi and welcome to the site.  I'm training from an 18-week IM program written by Mark Allen, but modified it because the big race I'm training for isn't quite IM-length.  No matter what program you use, don't assume everything has to be set in stone.  Think of it as a jumping off point and work it to your specific needs.  That may sound difficult if you are new at this, but once you get into it more you'll get a better feel for what you need.  Good luck.

Sharon

Welcome Trityler! This is a great place to find support and to get your questions answered. I am using the Oly program from this site mixed with a few other things i have been picking up along the way. Working good so far! Jack

Welcome to the site! I'm a terrible swimmer too, so I'll be interested to hear how your training is coming along. I'm trying to get into the pool 2-3 times a week for about 45 minutes at a time. I'm taking private swim classes for some of those sessions. I used to only be able to go 25m without stopping to gasp for air, and now I'm up to a whole 50m! I only have to swim 20 times that distance for the next race I'm planning this summer...great! I'm working on trying to breathe on both sides now, with only limited success.
