Subject: Bike size - Specialized

I found an attracting post over a local website for a Specialized S-Works tri bike.

I am 172cm and the bike is 54cm while most of people told me that a 51cm is perfect for me. I ride at the moment a 54cm road bike.

2 questions:

1) Do you think it can be adjusted on me?

2) What do you think in general of the ad? It is in english and 1CHF=1US$ at the moment

Any suggestion is welcomed

In the US, $3900 would be way too much for that used bike. I would pay not much over $2000. In the US, you can get (assuming you can find them), new carbon Transitions for that price...not the S-Works, model, but still.

As for the fit, I have no idea. My guess is that you may not be able to get the seat high enough for you. What's your inseam length, and how tall are you?

I ride a Transition Pro (same frame) in 54cm, and I'm 5'11 (181cm) with a 31" (78cm) inseam, if that helps any.

I'm 174cm and have the 54cm S-Works transition, it feels good, but I had to put a 120mm stem on it to get the position that felt best for me. I think it's actually on the small side of 54cm, so it may work for you. Don't know anything about bike costs in your country, my bike is worth around $2700 USD.

So I may have some chances. I will go tomorrow morning to have a test ride on it and see. I may come back home with a new bike.

Now the question is: should I go with that new bike to my first IM in 1 month, after a proper bike fit?

After a proper fit, and with a month to get used to it, you should be great on the new bike.

I checked on the link, all top end stuff on the bike, very nice. No reason not to use it for the IM, it's a smooth riding bike. The BG seat may be an issue, some people love it, some people hate it. It may not have enough padding for you.

I have a Selle Italia XLR T1 and I will eventually replace it with mine.

Thanks for the suggestions
