Yep.  And I've even seen some that have a mountain bike division.  And there are even tris out there that are off road and mountain bike only.

Great thanks alot. I dont want to have to get something new until I am more experienced.

Spend a few bucks and get some slicks. I got some from performance for 19 dollars shipped and used the same tubes. Makes a world of difference. If you really want to get wild get some clipless pedals and shoes. That combination of new tires and pedals/shoes will get you alot more on the top end speed. Or you would be just fine to rock the knobbies and flat pedals. Whichever you choose.

I did my first few tris on a hybrid and survived just fine. Not only do I think you'll be okay if you do a couple races on your mountain bike, you'll have a much better idea what you might want in a road or tri bike if you decide to get one.

MissKelly thank you for the advise and i think my first tri will be the 2009 Danskin Tri in Orlando and I think I might do the Danskin Chicagoland Tri as well. I have a while to train so i am sure that I will find my grove.
