hi all,

i am a tri newbie. i recently finished my second sprint. the week after BOTH races i seem to have pretty much no mojo for training. i sort of dread it. it does seem to gradually come back but i was wondering if i am the only one who gets this way...

anyone else have post race low mojo?

I'm having similar issues.  I finished my first tri this past weekend.  When I was done, I had a ton still in the tank even though I finished 30 minutes faster than my initial goal (granted the goal was very conservative).  From talking to people and reading posts, I expected this huge rush or some euphoric high.  Instead, I felt like I had just finished a training session.  I didn't push myself because I wanted to finish.  I have another tri on the 20th.  I'm going to go nuts on this one and push myself really really hard.  Maybe if I finish with nothing left I'll feel like I accomplished something.  As it is, I'm definetly feeling the blahs.  Has this happened to anyone else?

I get it after my long races for the year. I think it is your body telling you to rest. Also for me it is time to enjoy some other things in life other than training all the time. Use the time to catch up on family time, fishing, or whatever it is you have been neglecting for the past few months. Try to get in a couple of runs or bikes and don't watch your pace or how far you go. Just go out for fun. Your drive will come back to train soon enough and by then your body will be ready. Enjoy a few extra beers!

thank you both for the responses. i don't feel any euphoria when i finish a race either but i am very proud of myself/my accomplishment. but all this week, i have just wanted to do laundry, hang out with my husband, play wii with the kids, and ...yes... maybe have a beer. kind of anything but sweating. maybe i just need to explain to my coach that we should build post race down time into my training plans.... that is ok...right?

Sure is alright. I love the post race downtime. Remember we're not trying to be pro's. Do what you can and you'll know when its time to push yourself again.

It happens when you are training hard for one day...your body and mind needs a break. Take some time and soon you will be chomping at the bit to get back at it.

Time away makes us appreciate everything more.

I feel exactly the same way.  After I finished my "A" race, I went into almost complete 'slacker' mood.  It's been two weeks and I'm JUST now getting antsy to go for a ride.

Use this for inspiration..It's much easier to STAY in shape than it is to GET (back) in shape.
