I just went to help my buddy get registered for IMCA and literally between filling out the form...then going to get his USAT number the race is now FULL.  DOes anyone have any experiences getting RD's to open up a spot or this just whining?

Um, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but IMCA (assuming you mean Canada) has been sold out for at least 3 weeks now. They opened a few additional slots after lower than expected on-site sign up validation, but those slots closed in under an hour, too.

Pretty much all North American IM races sell out either on-site or within minutes of going on-line. Maybe try IM Louisville, or plunk down $1,500 to get a Community Fund slot. At least then you get a write-off, too.

People often have problems with Active in NA Sports events and after filling out the online info. and waiting for things to process they have "timed out" and by the time they got there stuff logged back in it was sold out.

Free market economy and all that.  Sucks, but that is the way the cookie crumbles.

I assume you're referring to Ralph's (AKA - IM California, California 70.3, Oceanside, and I'm sure there's a few other names). Not that it matters much which race it is. Typically RD's are pretty firm with their policies and rarely make exceptions to let people in (outside of pros, elites, or dignitaries) once a race is full.

Having said that, it never hurts to ask. Just don't be surprised if they're unwilling to consider it.

Yup, IMCal appears to be sold out.

You might be able to check out community fund slots.  As for the RD, you can certainly try and it could not hurt to do so but the prognosis is not good.

As an alternative, there is always Wildflower Long Course or maybe Vineman

For clarification I am talking IMCA 70.3 in Oceanside, CA

Kinda sucks...we are training together so it kinda helps to do the same race for motivation reasons.

They will surely offer some sort of charity/community fund slots.  That is a good way to get in while helping an organization out.
