Subject: Bike Position
When I am aero on my bike, I slide forward on my saddle.  ALmost to the point where In just perched on the very end.. not enough padding in the world to make it comfortable.  If I sit up and just cruise with my hands on the bullhorns, Im backon the sweet spot... if I force myself back onto the sweetspot while in aero, it is just a matter of time until I slide forward...

Also, when I get off the bike, or if I am really getting after it on a hill or something, my quads burn like crazy!  Im pretty strong, but one canonly take so much.  I consiously pull across the bottom of the stroke, and sometimes even pull up on the upstroke to avoid this...

Is it set up, or technique?

With the utmost respect to the pending response, " go to a LBS and get fitted"... if that was an option, I would not have asked here.  ANy ideas for a BT who is still wet behind the ears?

Are your aero bars too far forward? What is the angle of your saddle? Post pics and maybe we can help.

It's a fair guess that you're too stretched out. Since you said "bullhorns" I'm assuming this is a tri bike with aerobars. Is your seat far enough forward? Are your bars a bit too long? Is your seat tilted a bit too far down at the nose?

I have the same problem, BTW, and moving the seat all the way forward while fiddling with seat angle has cured most of it.

I think the real fix is to have a five or ten MM shorter stem to bring my arms back in a bit (I don't have adjustable armrests on the Vision basebar on my P3C).

... Sorry- I missed some crucial info...

It is a 54 cm Fuji Aloha.  I bought it used from craigslist after a month of researching bike fit on this and other forums.  It seems to be right, except for the sliding forward...

Im 5'8.  I don't honestly know what the geometry on the bike is.  I have the seat all the way forward and I have it as flat as I can from eyeballing it.  I have tried to tilt it up a little bit, but that hurts, ahem, you know what it hurts...

I have already moved the bars back a bit by putting a new stem on.  This makes the aerobars very comfortable on my arms and shoulders.  If I slide them back, my arm rests on them too close to my wrist and my wrists hurt for days after a long ride.

Im going for a ride tonight.  Maybe the pumpkinman course in South Berwick, ME...  I ll try to adjust the aerobars a bit and see if that helps.

*** I ll post some pictures after my ride... ***

I move forward on the saddle too when in aero but it feels natural and comfortable and more powerful. I don't consider it a problem.
I have had a professional fit (road bike with a ff seat post and clip on aero bars), but have made some modifications to the bike and fit since then. I added bull horns and bar end shifters/brake levers, moved the stem down 5mm, moved the aero bars a bit fwd, and widened them a bit. Feels good to me.

OK,

I actually spun the seat post around backwards, and was able to adjust the saddle forward about an inch... that problem was solved... sort of.  I still slid forward, so now I was almost off the seat.  I did ALSO move the aerobars back.  My arms and shoulders really hurt a lot.  It was like I was using my arms to hold myself back on the saddle instead of being stationary and leaning over to grab the bars.   As soon as I got home I switched the bars back.  I ll give the saddle another go with the bars in the originoal position.

Rode a hilly 17 miles in about 50 min.  I was not pushing it too much, but I got those calf cramps again and my quads were burning.  I was definatly hydrated.  You just have to take my word for it.  A friend of mine suggested calcium... we will see if more milk helps.

I tried to get some photos posted, but I can't figure out how to re-size them to fit.  I ll keep trying...

without seeing the bike fit not much i can say there other than i slide forward when really pushing it too.

on the legs burning, its not a leg strength issues at all, but rathere a fitness issue. you dont really need strong legs are all to be fast, jsut the conditioning to hold onto that pace longer.
