Subject: Ladies - What do you wear for a Tri?
I'm gearing up for my first Triathlon, and figuring out what to wear seems more difficult than training!

I didn't care for the padded Tri shorts, so I just bought compression shorts.  Do Tri shorts make much difference?

As for the top half, I considered just going in a sports bra top for the swim then putting a tank over it for the rest.  I'd rather have a tight shirt with a built in bra for the whole distance, but can never find one with enough support to run in.

Then there is the material to think about; I don't want to feel totally soggy the whole way.

My event is a short one, so I don't have worry about comfort for a long period of time.

I'm just confused about getting the right amount of support with the least resistance and water retention.

Compression shorts work fine for shorter races -- that's what I used for several tris.  I wouldn't recommend trying to put a shirt on in T1 unless it has a full zipper -- I've seen people try it and the dry shirts gets stuck on the wet skin and takes forever to put on.  A fitted top over a sports bra will work in the water, just make sure there's no chaffing under your arms.  And no cotton because it holds water.  I'm considering getting a tri top because it covers more skin for sun protection than the racerback top I usually wear.

Good luck on your race!!!

I looked and looked for a full length top w/ built in bra to wear for my upcoming tri.  Ultimately, I felt running tops weren't tight enough around my stomach area for the swim...and tri-tops were so tight around the same area they were uncomfortable.

So, I said the h@ll w/ it and bought the DeSoto Micro bra.  I intend to wear that with tri shorts, no plans to put a second top over.

The fabric seems very similar to other tri-tops I've looked at, and dries very quickly.   They have other styles w/ more coverage.

Even though I'm not sporting six-pack abs like the really hardcore women, I figure they're not bad after all of this training!

Thanks for the tips!  I found a tight shirt with a built in bra that I think is going to be supportive enough for the run.  I think I'm going to wear it for my workout tonight at the Y which includes swimming and see how it feels.

But I'm still open to other options/advice...

Well, I wore the tight shirt with the built in bra and compression shorts for swimming laps last night ant it was all good; however, when I got out I was hauling a lot of water along with me! Felt a bit heavy and soggy.

Next time I swim laps I'll try it in a sports bra top with the shorts and see if that feels better when I get out.  Maybe I should take a shower in my clothes than go for a bike ride wet to see how it feels!

I would kind of prefer the more coverage, but comfort is more important here.

Your shirt must have cotton in it, because a non-cotton technical shirt won't hold any water.
