I've competed in one sprint distance Tri this past weekend and am looking at scheduling one more.  I've been cycling for sometime and started running last year (up to half marathon distance).  Not a real strong swimmer, but feel like I can do the 1500m of an Olympic based on my 800M performance in sprint.  I feel like the Olympic distance is doable but it will be pushing me to my limits.  If you were me, and knowing that this would be last chance at Tri for year, would you push yourself to do Olympic or take the easy route?

Would you rather push your limits to finish the Oly or push your limits to go as fast as you can in the Sprint? It's a personal choice. I like to redline for an hour rather than worry about pacing, nutrition, etc. that comes with longer races.

That's exactly what I'm wrestling with.  Either way, I will push myself, but at the end of the day, will I feel better knowing that I completed the Olympic distance.  I think I already know answer, just have to convince myself that I'm ready.

Probably putting cart before horse anyway, as I need to talk wife into another race weekend (gas, hotel stay, restaurants, etc..).

I asked a similar question on here the other day.  I did my first tri last year (sprint) and was wondering if I should push myself to do an Olympic distance tri.  I, like you it seems, really wanted to push myself and do the Olympic distance, but needed a little encouragement.  I will be going for it in just under 2 weeks!  I say go Olympic!

Go for it, you have to keep pushing yourself in this sport.  My first ever race was an Olympic and two weeks later I did a half and never looked back.  It's so addicting....

DO IT!
Nutrition for an Oly is not that big of a deal.  In fact, when I stopped worrying SO much about it-my results got better. Good Luck!
