I need some help.  Any time i do a run any longer than 4 miles, i get blisters on the tips of my toes on my first 2 toes next to my big toe.  it hurts.  doesn't matter what shoes i wear, i've had this problem as long as i can remember.  body glide doesn't help (tried that today and have possibly the  biggest ones i've had.  socks vs. no socks doesn't really matter.  i'm at a loss, but i wont be able to wear close toed dress shoes to work til at least wednesday.

help??

talcum powder? I know some triathletes swear by it,, but others arent so impressed.

Also, generally, your run shoes should be 1/2 a size to a size bigger than your normal shoes to stop your toes hitting or rubbing the front of your shoes when you run.  Hope that helps.  Failing that, when you're running, concentrate on thinking about how your feet are in your shoes, i.e., are you clenching your toes?  I dont think you said whether the blisters are on the front (tip) of your toes or on the little paddy bits (sorry, i'm no doctor, lol).

Hope you manage to get it sorted.

My shoes are already a half size bigger, and yeah the blisters are on the tips of my toes not on the pads underneath.  I run with my shoes pretty loose, i'm wondering if they aren't too loose.  i hate tying my shoes tighter, but maybe i'll have to try.

I had this problem too! I found that I am clinching my toes when I push off. I had to train myself to relax my toes when I want to push off. I am in the process of teaching myself Chi-running and they tell you to touch and lift the foot off the ground not push and let me tell you it is working I am not getting the blister's I use to get. If your toe nail's hurt I believe you are in the process of losing them if not you are safe. I hope this helps!

Thanks for the responses, the toe nails do not hurt.  I have had this problem as long as I can remember.  I have never lost a toe nail.  I'm going to try to tighten the shoes and try and pay attention to what is going on with my toes when I run.

Thanks again, we'll see how it goes.

Sounds like your curling your toes either up or down.  See if you notice it next time.  If so, relax them.

Another vote for curling/clenching your toes.  My next-to-big-toe toe is longer than my big toe and I get NASTY blisters on the end when I do this.  Seems to happen in conjunction with cumulative fatigue when my form gets sloppy...I definitely catch myself clenching on the push-off.
