Comments: Was unable to breathe properly the first 100 meters or so...did some breastroke. Finally got my face in the water and began to exhale completely. I thought this trouble would cause me to drop to the back of the pack, but when I found my groove I was right in the crowd. What would you do differently?: Relax and breathe how I trained. Push harder the second half. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: Cap and goggles off... shoes, shirt, sunglasses and helmet on. No problem...long walk with bike to mount ine. What would you do differently?: Nothing (I wanted to jog and not run with bike to conserve a bit) ![]() Bike
Comments: I did better than I expected in the swim and the run...but I'm not sure what I'm doing on the bike? I averaged over 17mph, which is very good for me...but I'm going to have to start pushing myself harder in training. I compared my times to those of the age groupers (30-35) and they are all in he 40 minute range. I think that I slow down too much starting up a hill? What would you do differently?: Train more effectively..get faster! I know this was my first...so I am pleased with my performance...I just see the bike as being my weakness. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: Had running shoes on from bike...so helmet off and race belt on. Sip of gatorade. What would you do differently?: Nothing ![]() Run
Comments: Did well...I've been doing 5Ks regularly for a couple of years now, so I knew that I would be ok as long as I had some gas left in the tank. Passed a lot of people that seemed to be burnt out. What would you do differently?: Maybe push harder the last mile. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Walked around with my wife and son, talked with a friend from work. Cheered on the last finishers. Drank a coke for the first time in a few months. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of proper training on the bike. As this was my first tri, I was unsure where my limits were. Did not know how much to push/conserve. Event comments: I had a great time at my first tri. I did better than I anticipated...but I'm already picking my performance apart and seeing what I can improve for next time. Any tips about becoming faster on the bike would be appreciated. I'm signed up for two more this year. Cheers to all the BTers that have helped me figure this triathlon thing out! Overall Rank = 460/593
Age Group = Novice Men
Age Group Rank = 33/70
Arrived very early. Set-up transition, got chip, got marked. Walked around to get a feel of transition area, chutes, swim start and finish, etc. Tried to relax and enjoy the morning. Peed like four times. Sipped water and ate a powerbar. This is my first tri ever!!
Jogged between swim start and finish a couple of times, stretched lightly.
