Subject: Half IM recommendations for Virginia/Mid-Atlantic?
I'm seriously considering a Half IM for next season, and I'd like to do one here in the VA/Mid-Atlantic region. It's easy enough to look up races on the web, but does anyone have some personal feedback or recommendations they would like to share on a good event?

I'll be able to report on the Diamondman in 2 weeks but I hear it's a very nice race as a first 1/2 IM.

Hi Kenail,

I heard the Laka Anna Kinetic 1/2 is great, but it's in April and as you know, last spring was very chilly.

I don't live there (though I did grow up there) but I believe Eagleman is the premiere HIM in that area. It draws some of the top racers in the world and takes place in Cambridge, MD (I'm from Ocean City).

The Odyssey 1/2IM is also at Lake Anna- Sept 24th.  Look for my RR around the 26th or so, after I can move again.

The only HIM I have done is White Lake (it's in NC) it's a great race, clear water in a sandy-bottomed lake, and a  flat, almost traffic-free course, the run's a little tedious, but well supported.

I did the Eagleman this past June and highly recommend it. It's a well run race with a lot of volunteers. The two main challenges are that the bike can be windy and the run is typically hot with little shade. It's a great race regardless! I think registration opens up sometime within the next few weeks.
