Subject: The bad from New Orleans

There are 4,500 sex offenders who lived in New Orleans that are now unaccounted for.

In Cobb County (Atlanta area), a woman was kidnapped and carjacked yesterday.  She was accosted by a guy allegedly from New Orleans who was displaced and decided to bring his form of car shopping to Atlanta.  She was killed when their car wrecked during a struggle with the kidnapper.  A brave fellow from Atlanta, who was behind the car, shot and killed the bugger as he tried to escape.  They connected this lowlife to a kidnapping and rape that took place here last week.  The woman who he killed yesterday is survived by a husband and two small children.

Not to freighten you all, but as a prosecutor that specializes in prosecuting crimes against children, the fact is even as we sit there is probably a non-registered sex offender within a 5 minute drive of you. That's even without the Hurricane in the upper gulf states. Know where your kids are, know who they are with, ask questions, be a pain in their butts. Use common sense, if the male neighbor is taking a liking to your child, and it creeps you out, listen to your gutt.

And most sex-offenders are someone you know personally, most often a relative. A father, uncle, cousin, friend, coach, neighbor, boyfriend, girlfriend. Someone you and your children see every day.  It's the sexual abuse by these people that never makes the offender list.

Yes, all the people I know who were abused or molested weren't attacked by strangers.  And, yes, there are enough people I know I of to use the word "all".  In many cases it was a male relative (father, uncle, cousin, etc.).  As far as I know, none of them have been prosecuted -- in many cases, the abuse came out after the "statute of limitations" expired.  So, none of these people have a 'record'.  I know several of them are still out there, living their lives, living in their neighborhoods, etc.

These are indeed some "crazy" times. Take a lesson from the "brave" man who tried to help and keep the peace by keeping a piece handy at all times.
Don't have one....buy several!
Can't use one...learn.
Bookmark the Sex Offender registry and check it often. It's not real accurate but it's all we have at this time.
Rely on the police to find your assaillant, but rely on yourself for your family's protection.
Imagine if Lot had had a .45 Auto.
