Subject: Never doing a race from these people again. PISSED OFF! Dear LISA, It is with great disappointment that I must announce that this weekend's TriAmerica Triathlon Series race at Miami Beach has been cancelled. This includes all functions associated with the race including the Saturday morning TriKidz Triathlon, the race expo, and Sunday's Sprint and International Distance triathlons. The cancellation is the result of the City's denial of our special event permit primarily due to our inability to obtain the necessary permits for road use for the bike course. Unfortunately with several last minute course changes, time was not on our side. As a last resort we attempted to alter the course to eliminate the bike segment, but that request was also denied because it altered our original event application. Although the TriKidz event was completely off road, because it was contained within the master event application and permit, it cannot be held as well. Please do not blame the City of Miami Beach for the denial of the permit. As race director I have to accept full responsibility for the cancellation of the event. It is the first time in my 22 years of race directing that I have had to completely cancel an event that was not related to "act of god" conditions. This is something I do not take lightly and immediate actions will be taken to make certain this does not happen again. As a registered participant you will receive full credit for this race. A more detailed letter will be sent to you next week after we have had a chance to regroup and completely evaluate the situation. I know this will impact your weekend plans, and I offer my sincere apologies for that. Respectfully, Fred Sommer Race Director SommerSports.com |
