Anyone here done the whole loop? Although it may be a bit late to plan for this year, we're considering doing parts of it in August. Most likely just a few sections we could access via trailheads as day hikes. Maybe do the whole thing at a later date with proper planning. Any tips or other trails we should look at while in the area? Anything to avoid? Will there be Rainier cherries in late August?

August is actually mid-summer here in Pac NW...

Cherry season was in June...but August should be sweet corn, apples, blueberries (maybe) & maybe raspberries...

I wasn't familiar with the Wonderland Trail, but we've done a bit of hiking on a few trails. Definitely be ready for cooler weather - especially up in altitude a bit.

Also - you might want to post this in the WA forum, there may be local responses...

There are some great hikes around Paradise and Sunrise.  Paradise is one of my favorite places.  It gets pretty crowded in the summer so parking can be a little difficult.

I finally made it to Rainier last summer. I agree that the Paradise area is great...the views along the Skyline Trail were phenomenal.

We also did a longer, tougher, more secluded day hike (~13+ miles according to my Garmin) that took us along the Wonderland Trail for about 3-3.5 miles. This webpage pretty much describes the exact route we took: http://www.nwhiker.com/MirrorLakesHike.html. The beginning portion of the hike along the Tahoma Creek is on a trail no longer maintained by the park, but it was still in good shape & we didn't have any issues following it...and the rangers had no problem giving us the latest trail conditions or tips on how to find it.

Thanks for the tips. That nwhiker is a good resource, thx. I linked to the point where I found http://www.walkingwithwired.com/p/home-page.html. Now the Missus wants to hike the PCT from Tahoe to Yosemite, in 3 weeks from now! This is gonna get expensive...

That looks like a great opportunity for a trail run instead, forget hiking!

Ouch. That would be pretty hardcore to run that thing in 4 days. The elevation profile looks like it is a series of ridges and ravines all the way around.
