Subject: Reston Tri
Is anyone doing the Reston Tri on May 3?. It'll be my first, but the friend who I thought may also be doing it got shut out of registering.

I have registered.  So have two of my friends.  I did the Olympic distance last fall.  This race is done by the same group.  Very well organized and supported.  You will have a fun time.

I think you are talking about the Reston Olympic in September.  The sprint is a pool swim.

For the Olympic, they hold a practice swim at the lake a week before the race.  It's a good opportunity to swim the course and then ride the bike course.

There is an open water swim held by Reston Masters in May - the Jim McDonnell swim.  It is also a good opportunity to get some open water swimming in.  A practice swim is held on Saturday and then competition on Sunday.

I am actually doing both. And am planning in doiing the open swim practice, but i had also heard about an quarry in Haymarket that has open water practices in the summer on sundays
