Swim
Comments: The swim was awesome. For as nervous as I was about an open water race, this was great. I didn't really experience lots of hitting and kicking. I got stuck behind 3 people doing the exact same pace, but eventually squeezed through when one got off course. I was really really happy with my sighting, but I had trouble on the side where we were going into the sun. I really tried to keep breathing in control, which I did most of the time, but I had some points where I was breathing every breath. I also passed people in the wave before me, and that made me feel good. It was all downhill from here tho. What would you do differently?: Nada. Transition 1
Comments: LOOOOOOOONG run to T1. Didn't get enough powder into my socks so I had a bit of trouble but not much. Ate 3 clif bloks. What would you do differently?: Buy new stuff (shoes, no socks, etc) that would make me faster. Bike
Comments: SUCKY. I immediately washed my clif bloks down with water, then was going to switch to gatorade. Lesson learned here was gatorade and clif bloks make me want to puke. So, back to water I go. My legs wouldn't turn over, I was getting passed left and right. The only people I passed were those on hybrids or mountain bikes and even one of those passed me. I heard a shout out from Soozy at the turn around, which helped boost me a bit...only cuz I knew I was close to half way! I had a very horrible mental roller coaster through this course. Since no matter what I was having trouble getting up hills, I POUNDED out the flats... 20+mph there. I hated my bike after this ride. Hubby got a great pic that says "get me the f*&k away from my bike" coming into T2. Still this sucked and I'm really disappointed in how I felt. Speed was OK, within my goal, but I FELT horrible. What would you do differently?: Ride more in training. Transition 2
Comments: Took this slow. I needed a minute. My head was in the WRONG place. I headed out of T2, saw hubby and said "I am totally done with this BS." Poor guy, he was just trying to cheer me on! What would you do differently?: Not have a shitty bike leg. Run
Comments: The first mile, my head was in the wrong place. Like DNF wrong. I kept running, but kept asking myself WHY I was running? I didn't want to be there, didn't want to finish. Then I hit the 1.25 mile mark, and the turn around for short course. I thought "Sarah, you best readjust this attitude if you are going to get thru this. You aren't letting anyone down but yourself." So, there you go, I readjusted and ran everything but the water stops. Now, had this actually been 6.2 miles, I would've done OK, but mapmyrun says its' only 5.8, so I was pokey. But I felt good coming in...no urge to puke and no major pains and that is always a positive. What would you do differently?: Not have a crappy bike. I'm very glad I could readjust my brain. Post race
Warm down: I was slow enough that the massage people had already packed up and left. Which is crappy in my opinion. A stretch station was still going, so I got a good stretch. Within 5 minutes, they started awards. There were still several on the course, and I also think this was crappy. What limited your ability to perform faster: Training, pure and simple. Registering in Feb for this race gives you all kinds of motivation. However, life tossed me a few obstacles between then and now, and I did the best I could. Last updated: 2006-04-17 12:00 AM

Got up at 3:30, had an english muffin with peanut butter. Packed my last minute things, grabbed coffee and I was ready to go. Getsome picked me up a little after 4:00 am and we were off to the race site! My hubby picked up Mrs. Getsome later in the morning so they could sleep in a little more.
Pacing back and forth and telling some chick to get her bike off my crap. No really... Were were racked by swim cap color and we were told 6 bikes to a rack. Well, I got my ass their really early, and got my spot. 15 minutes before transition closes, I come back to my stuff to see a chick with her bike ON TOP of my towel, shoes and bag and she is starting to unpack her bag. I look around..7 bikes. I look further down... 4 bikes. I then tell chicky that she can't rack her bike on my stuff, but she can go down to that rack with only 4 bikes. After a big huff, she moved...of course after dragging her wheel all over my stuff. Fellow rackmate told me that was a very very good call. There was no way I could get to my stuff!
