Subject: RE: Walking I train walking Sometimes as part of my runs: as either run walks or sometime as adding 2 or 3 mile walk on the end of a run Also I may do a specific walk session 6-10mile cross country walk The reason I do this There may be times in an IM you find yourself walking - fatigue, gastric problems, aid stations, injury etc ... but the key is to be able to walk quick. Last year (IM Maastrickt) i was chatting to a fellow competitor - he was running, I was walking ... at the end of our chat I walked away from him If you incorporate walking in your training ... give it purpose ... being able to walk at 7kph will give you a 6hr marathon on the end of an IM ... and there are a lot of people run it slower than that |
