Subject: RE: Can I train for running races AND triathlons? Hmmm....interesting thought that the cross training from triathlons actually made you guys faster runners.
I'm currently doing about 25+ mpw. I was usually at about 20 mpw, but I had a month or so of 30 mpw during the summer and I felt I was handling it well. Which makes me think that 40 is doable, and certainly would enable me to get in a good base for a fall '05 marathon. I was planning on running one this fall, but my knee started to bother me once my long runs started to near 15 miles, which is why I feel I need a really solid base.
At this point, I'm thinking I'm going to finish this year following more or less a tri training plan, with more of a running focus (i.e. get in a couple swims and a couple bike rides with 4, maybe 5 days of running. ) Then I'll train for a half IM in May (perhaps I'll bump up the running mileage just a bit ). And then I'll have 6 months to build a base and train for a marathon.
It's just so hard to try to focus on any one thing. Thanks for your help. |
