a great way to practice lake swimming, sans lake, is to swim outside of the lane line in the general pool area. usually, there are kids playing nearby that create waves that resemble outside conditions. also, it's a great way to practice sight-breathing and to work on balance within these mini-waves, otherwise impossible to duplicate within lane lines.

sight breathing is the method a triathlete uses to breathe and to see fwd. with head above water while swimming. since a lake obviously, will be dark and murky, practice lifting your head in unison while you breathe fwd. so you can see above water.

Good post, I usually try to site about every ten strokes, but you can tell the guys who don't because they are usually so far off course.

Great idea! I also try to go to the lap lanes when there is a water aerobics class going on at the other side. At first I thought myself a bit idiotic...but am beginning to think there is method to that madness...some of those guys & gals can kick up a storm & creat some nice "chop."
