I'm signed up too !

Any hotel recommendations ?  I'll have my kids with me so a pool is a requirement

Osoyoos might also be an option - its not too far is it ?  20 min ?

We stayed at the Best Western in Osoyoos two years in a row and they have a really nice pool.  It is around a 20 minute drive.  They have a continental breakfast they open up extra early race morning for you which is always nice to get some food in the kids before heading out.  We got lucky this year and got a room at the Cactus Tree Inn in Oliver but if we hadn't gotten a room there it would have been the Best Western Osoyoos again.  Also the Diamond Grill in Osoyoos has the perfect carbo-load menu!

I've signed up for Oliver too.

I'm also looking at doing the BMO Half Marathon in Vancouver on 1st May to see how the running is shaping up.

I'm also looking for accomodation too, any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers

Steve

I stay in Osoyoos every year.  Best Western is nice - I've stayed there.

I'm staying at the Holiday Inn http://www.holidayinosoyoos.com/guestrooms.htmfor the Sprint in May ($90 a night thru Priceline - I probably could have bid lower for that).  It has a pool.

And I'm staying at the Watermark http://www.watermarkbeachresort.com/ which I got thru Hotwire for $115 a night.  Hotwire doesn't tel you it's the Watermark when you accept the room...

I'm going to be coming down on the Friday night and would love to meet with people on Saturday.  I'm going to go for a short swim on Saturday afternoon so maybe sometime after that?  Or before/after the race meeting?

Ideas?

I will be staying at the "resort" as well. We are in our 32ft fifth wheel. Not really camping either. There is a group of use with 3 sites. We can host the after party for those that are staying till Monday. Dinner would be fun.

We will be in the site right across from the office. It the only site we fit in. We normally stay here in august but have moved the family trip to this weekend.

Does anyone have the Oliver HIM bike course map (with distance/elevations) so that I can see what I've let myself in for!.

What kind of course is it?..i.e. fast/flat, rolling hills, any nasty hills on there?

I still need to find a place to stay too, so any suggestions would be appreciated.

I will probably travel up on Saturday morning (from Maple Ridge) and come back after the race.

Cheers

Steve

It's not too hard of a course. There's one real hill on there, but you do it twice cause of the loops - but it's pretty short and you have a long downhill to recover after it.

Good luck with the Oliver half iron this year.  I was supposed to be in the running, but I got into my accident 6 months ago ( hit by a car while training, busted femur requiring hip surgery ).

Maybe in a year or two :p

Ok, Doctor says no running AT ALL for a year and a half, pushes back the date for my IM or 1/2 IM :p

I've been riding a stationary bike since pretty early.  I'm allowed to get fully into regular activity now.  I'll start riding outside in a few weeks once the weather improves a bit and I've had more activity on my legs.

The only reason he doesn't want me to run is because of the risk of bone death.  If the bone death starts and I'm running on it, big trouble.  If the location of the break was lower and that wasn't an issue, it's solid enough that I'd be able to start running!

It's really too bad my luck on the break location, but I'm happy that I went from bed ridden to being allowed to do normal activity in 6 months

yup. if you were a dog, I'd say you'd be at high risk for avascular necrosis of the femoral head.  Just a high-falootin' way of saying bone death

nasty nasty fracture for sure.
Show off!!

Good luck on the recovery df - hopefully we'll see you out there riding sometime!

Does anyone have any suggestions regarding accomodation for Oliver?....looking for something close by for 1 person. (I wont be in a tent or an RV etc) and will be travelling up from Maple Ridge on Saturday.

Also, how are people's training going?....my 18 week plan turned into a 10 week plan!!!....I have been fairly consistent with fitness and running and in the last month more on the bike and running (did a 40km interval session on the bike on Saturday and a 10 mile run on Sunday), but need to knuckle down and get some good sessions in.

My wetsuit (Xterra Vortex 3) arrived last week, so I will get some OWS's in soon, Whonnock Lake is my local lake, but if anyone else can suggest a place close to Maple Ridge that would be appreciated.

Is anyone else doing the BMO 1/2 marathon on 1st May?....I'm just about to sign up this week.

Enough of my rambling!

Cheers

Steve
