Black squirrel tri this morning, Council Bluffs, Ia. 7th ish out of the water worked my way up to fifth on the bike and felt strong to catch more people, then............flat. Got it changed and it popped again, the hole in the tire was to big and the tube was protruding through. My race was over. Man, I felt so good this morning too. I'm so bummed.

No dollar bill available to help fix that flat for the duration?

The tire was torn to far, it wouldn't have helped

I had a race earlier this year where I was experimenting with some new tires. I had a great swim, came out of the water about 1oth overall, was working my way up on the bike and was sitting third overall with an average bike speed of 26.1 on my computer- by far my fastest bike split at about 30 kilometers of a 40 kilometer bike leg of the year. Very fast course, flat, loops, no wind. Just hauling. I hit something... it gashed the side of my tire. It was the first time in over 250 triathlons that I had flatted a tubular tire. Of course, like a dimwit- I had no spare. Game over.

That sucked.

I feel your pain my friend.

The only thing you can do is get back on the horse and race again soon. Then, carry with the energy generated by the frustration of not finishing this time due to something largely beyond your control. That will carry you through the next race.

Best of luck My Friend.

After 250 triathlons without a flat, you'd almost be considered a "dimwit" for carrying a spare.

Thanks Tom, I've got another race a week after next so hopefully I'll have my redemption, just sucks because I look forward to the smaller races because I know I have a chance to do really well. I'm staying positive (atleast now). I have to admit I really lost my composure when it happened, swearing, screaming and what not. I'll take it as a learning experience, I don't have much of a choice. Thanks again for the support..

I sympathize and empathize. Let's start a club and get technical shirts printed up that say somewhere, "Flats Suck."
