Is anyone doing the MCM?

I'm wondering about two things that Floridians may be able to answer:

1) How should I dress for the start since it'll probably be around 50-60 degrees at start time?

3) Is there any benefit to going out for a ~6 mile run on Friday to get used to the weather, allergens, hills?

This is my first Marathon.  Worked at the finish line one year and remember it being pretty cold.  It was about two weeks later than it is this year though.

I would stick with a 3 mile run, but thats just me.

Bring "throw away" clothes. Layers on top of your regular racing outfit, sweatshirts, sweatpants to wear waiting for the start that you just take off and throw away when you get warm.

BTW: the temps in the mornings here have been in the 40s-low 50s this week. Don't know what that says about race day.

i am going to miss it this year but did do the last 2. it was damn cold for my FL butt at the start but it does not take long to warm up. first year i took a old sweatshirt and tossed it as the gun went off. last year i just dealt with it but i wore my CWX tights. i think the worst spot besides waiting at the start is mile 18 when you head around Haines Point the wind seems to always be ripping off the water also on the 14th st bridge heading back into VA at Crystal City, but its almost over there.
i was just there and Sunday did the Army 10 miler and it was like 60* and it was ok. i always do a run like friday just to do a few hills but nothing long. the biggest hill at the MCM is at mile 3 i think after that they are rolling and getting up to the main roads off the residential streets and of course at the end going up to Iowa Jima Memorial

Great tips all around.

They changed the course this year to make mile 13 the south-end of the island and make mile 16-20 along the Mall.  You don't cross the bridge until like 21 or so.

I'm sure that's a great thing because I was at the south-end of the golf course cheering people on back when I was a Lieutenant and they were hitting the wall right at that point.

Looks like this course is a little more user-friendly.  Thanks for the tips! 40s to low 50s UGH!!!

I remember the bridge having the worst wind EVER!  I drafted behind the friend I ran with to try to block the wind! I wore shorts, tshirt and a jacket.  I may have taken the jacket off for awhile during the middle, but I put it back on over the bridge. I was freezing!  I'm a thin blooded, wimpy Florida girl.

GOOD LUCK!!
