Subject: Caffeine in other ways than "usual"
Hi!  So I know everyone has thoughts and something to say about diet soda and about caffeine.  My plan is to try to go without caffeine, but first to go without diet soda.  Right now I drink 1 dt. dew a day.  I wanna try eliminating crap from my body - by that, I mean "unnatural"/ preservatives etc.  (I like to ~eliminate~ crap on a regular basis...but I digress)  I don't drink coffee and I really don't like tea.  For some reason when I drink it, I feel more tired - it's weird.  Anyways...I'm looking for low calorie (less than 50 per serving, ideally) ways to get caffeine.  I know clif bar shot blox has flavors that have caffeine, but it's a little bit higher calories than I want.

Anyone had water joe?  Ever heard of anything like that?

Thanks Smile

I am sooo confused by your post 'other Lisac' ... you say you want to eliminate caffeine but you want a drink with caffeine in it? Which is it?

If it were me I'd just go cold turkey and eliminate all caffeine from the body at once. Why baby step it? You are only on 1 Dew a day? I was only on 1 to 1.5 cups of coffee a day and had headaches for a few days but it was not unbearable at all.

I love coffee so I get mine there...but have been cutting it back starting with half decaf. But I have used both first endurance Pre-Race with good luck, but before and during races as well as SportsQuest movtivator which is pill form, I like alot during summer, since b vitamins help with you body temp not to increase with the use of caffiene which is common with its use

One caffeine pill and a glass of water should be under 50cal. Caffeine is diuretic so you get dehydrated. I also get that feeling when I drink to much coffee. Although caffeine is a good stimulent - it relaxes the muscles while boosting your nervous system - you should restrain your intake. To much does the opposite.

Water that has anything else than water in it, I try to avoid, even mineral water. It's a personal and monetary choice - those things are costly for what they are! If I want something else then water I will take coffee, juice, tea or chocolate milk.

The best way to take caffeine is throu coffee or tea (not herbal tea). There is a large assortment of both on the market. You don't have to take them black or plain, add some flavor to it. Have you tried a latté? Or maybe Irish cream, halselnut or french vanilla flavors? Just cut back on calories elsewhere.

Developping a taste for coffee or tea take some time and trail. You might as well have some fun while doing it.

If you dont want to get the habit, because it becomes an habit whether it is a drink or a pill, forget caffeine because caffeine is the both the apple and the worm.

I totally agree with you about not buying bottled water. Tap water is fine by me and much cheaper.

I'm still new to the sport and have a lot of research and testing to do still, but as of right now I drink green tea an hour before the race so the caffeine can get in and attach to the free radicals, thus slowing muscle fatigue...or so I've read and tested during some testing on green tea extract at elevation on muscle fatigue for school. During the race I use gels that have caffeine in them, such as Gu or Hammer. I'm a little OCD and pick at things in my teeth bothering me like gummy candy and bars.

I'm pretty new the sport also but I'm reluctant to use anything that comes in plastic wrap. Must be old fashion or something. I know a bike or a run is not the best of places to eat buffalo chicken wings with ognon rings or maybe a chinese take out but the astronaut food doesn't feel right for me.

Caffinated soap is when you had one to many beer shampoo? Who invents those things? Then who buys them?

And Santa never brought me the Krispy Kreem deodorant that I was longing for nor the fish 'n chips candles I asked. What a world.
