I have a p2sl with the stock shimano rims on it.
I would have to say every 3-4 rides I need to true these rims up.

The question - is it possible to have some that knows what they are doing work on these shimano rims and they will stay true?
or do I need to spend some cash to get rims that stay true? if so what is the threshold in $$ do you get a solid rim. I would not be looking for something necessarily aero, but just a solid rim for training and racing without the maintenance. Or is this too good to be "true"

If the spokes are relatively new then a good mechanic at your bike shop can true them up for the long haul. If the spokes are old then you need to get it relaced. If you want a good training wheel, put some heavy duty spokes on the wheel and it will be bomb proof.

i had shimano stock wheels and was having a similar issue.  Took them back to my LBS and got new wheels, all covered under warranty.

Sounds like the nipples/threads did not have the proper spoke prep applied.  Take 'em back to the shop and have them replaced/rebuilt with the right spoke prep.
