For the first time since early December, my two troubled toe nails on my right foot have returned enough to where I could feel some jamming from my long run Sunday or from tempo this AM.  I think I was happier without em cuz there was no more pain.  So, do you:

Actually... can I add that my toes are perfect because my SHOES ARE BIG ENOUGH?

Sure.  My shoes fit great without those two toenails!  I think its just two freakishly longer ones where if I went bigger shoes they would be all clowny.

I have the same problem.  Two toes are longer and I already buy shoes a full size larger.  I have to keep the nail very short or they get really bruised and fall off.  It's annoying.  Last time one fell off, it took about 4 months to grow back.  It was great because it didn't hurt.

toe caps - silicone

Best things ever invented. Been wearing them for years and haven't lost a toenail since. I used to lose my toe nails at least once a year. They feel a little funny when you first put them on put after about 1/4 mile you forget they are on your feet. Couple of runs and you won't run without them.

Ungulates don't lose nails.   EEEAAAWWW!!!

I've never lost a toenail, nor experienced a black toenail from running, and this has been the longest mileage of running ever for me in one season.  I've been lucky *knocks wood*.

Never lost a toenail from running either.   Have lost and or beat up a few because of snow skiing.

I lose the same two toenails about every year. Not because of my shoes or my socks, but because of the shape of those two toes are angled inward. So in the end they eventually fall off.
