Subject: What are the best nutriments to take for Triathlon training ?

I use to take protein shakes before of after training depending the type of protein i am taking. When i was biking i was taking Glutamine on daily basis and it helped a lot but now im training for Triathlon... It's by far the most demanding exercice i have ever practice and I was wondering what nutriments you guys are taking during training or competition.

I honestly think that my (American) diet has plenty of protein in it. Generally speaking, we eat a LOT of meat in this country, so protein is generally covered. ...carbs, too. 

I do keep 6 boiled eggs in the fridge, so I can grab one for a snack after a workout or in a hurry. I take fish oil pills daily. There is a movement right now that suggests our cattle, pigs, chickens, and even farm-raised fish are fed way more corn and not grasses like they used to. This leads to a lack of Omega 3s in our diet. I hope these fish pills supplement that lack of fatty acids.

As you can tell, I know just enough to be dangerous.  Cool

I don't think there is a good answer to this question.  We all have different diets and thus different intakes of nutrients.  I would say the best bet is to log your food intake and see if there are any deficiencies.  If there is see if there is a way you can work them in without supplements, if not use supplements as a last resource to bring things up to the levels you need.

I think you are right on with some protein and glutamine. Especially for a post-workout shake, this is the most important time to get some much needed nutrition into the body.
I also add HMB into my post-workout or daily routine. It is a great recovery supplement.

I agree with the AP too, make sure and check your overall nutrition plan to make sure you are getting enough of the "right" proteins, carbs, fats, etc.

personally i dont really do anything s pecial, just eat well. but i also will eat anything under the sun, and grew up with chefs for parents so i eat a HUGE variety of stuff comapred to most people.

i have gotten in the habit of snacking on almonds and hitting up oj after post workout recovery eating for antioxidants.  other than that, just focus on eating less bad stuff, though i still treat myself
