Who's in for this? Started my 20 week plan Monday and returning to this race is my most important goal of the year. I did it in 2009 and it was an awesome experience. Had to take last winter off to battle some nasty cancer that took eight months of intense treatment including two major surgeries, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and weeks in the hospital. Been slowing getting back into things and this will be my crowning achievement.

Hope to hear how folks are doing in their preparations and as always would love to meet some fellow BT'ers over there.

I'll be there but since it's two weeks after IMTX, I don't think I'll be looking to PR.  Awesome job on your cancer fight and look forward to meeting in June!

I'm in for 2011 - first timer. Just started riding the course on Wednesday nights (CompuTrainer Kona course).  One-hour efforts on my roadie from Waikaloa to Hawi.  Last night was my second week - a bit better than the first.  Heat training with a sweatshirt, but can't really duplicate the wind in my living room.  Looking forward to hearing about everyone's training heading up to the race!

Well, almost half way through my 20 week plan for the race. Time seems to be accelerating as the weeks draw down. I'm far ahead of my last preparations for this race as I ran a half marathon several weeks ago at my goal race pace and I've time trialed my swim in the pool at race pace comfortably. With the weather getting nicer I'm transitioning off the trainer so still evaluating where I'm at as have not had any long outdoor rides yet. I may just back off a bit on my bike goal pace and focus on a good solid run. The run course is tough with some of the undulating and twisting around golf cart paths.

I'm also buying whatever speed I can with a new aero helmet (RP Wingspan), Specialized S-works Mondo tires, latex tubes, new speedsuit for the swim (darn WTC rule change as my B70 ZP3 is illegal). We are also arriving a week early to better acclimate (per my wife's suggestion). Hope everyone else's training is going well.

Finished Oceanside 70.3 yesterday.  5:02 - about 7 minutes slower than last year and missed my goal times for all 5 splits. Was a tough day out on the bike course! Have Boston Marathon in 2 weeks and then I can focus on Honu.  Will be doing a lot of swimming and biking around that pesky long run.  Just 2 months left.  How's everyone else coming along?

Wow, only 8 weeks to go. Time is really starting to accelerate. The next couple weeks are critical for me to catch up on my riding. The weather has been so lousy I've done almost all my riding on the trainer. That never seems to translate as well as I'd like to the road. But, I'm well ahead of plan for my swimming and especially run with having run a marathon a week ago so fitness is good. I'm actually thinking I have a shot of beating my time from two years ago. That would truely be a miracle.

The Athlete's Guide is available online. Doesn't look like much has changed.

Hope everyone's training is going well. A few more weeks before taper. It would be nice to have another three months to get ready but I feel good all things considered. How do you all get your bike cases to your accommodations? I rented a convertible before and hoped it didn't rain but will have my son with us so that wouldn't work and don't want a mini-van for the island sightseeing.
