Subject: Drugs are bad, mmmkay!Went to the Dodgers/Giants game last night. Barry Bonds was getting heckled beyond belief. Chants of "Bar-ry Sux" and "Ballllco" and of course "Steeeerrr-oids" were non stop. And I don't mean just a few guys, I mean the entire stadium. How it doesn't get picked up on TV is beyond me.
Anyhow, I took my whole family, including my seven year old daughter. She finally picked up on the fact they kept booing the same guy.
Just an inning before, one of the Dodgers got hit in the head with a fastball and went out of the game with a concussion. Barry Bonds was the first batter up and the Dodgers pitcher beaned him in retaliation. The crowd blew up. They boo'd, cheered, everyone was standing.
My daughter turns to me and says, "Dad, why is everyone booing Barry?"
"Because he cheated" I said.
She asked, "how did he cheat?"
Now I knew steroids was just going to lead to a million more questions and the crazy environment of the baseball game was not the place to be holding this discussion. So I broke it down nice and simple for her.
"Sweetie, Barry did drugs."
She looked at me for a moment, processed what I told her, then she stood up on her chair and started booing.
That's my girl.
