Subject: Microsoft Outlook recent contact list issue.

Anyone and expert in outlook?

Someone at my office tried to do a backup of erased emails from the server (whole different issue).  That failed.  Not only did I not get my emails back, but it also wiped out the ability to remember the recent contact list.

You know, that list that recognizes names of who you emailed before and offers suggestions?  I have to repopulate it every time I restart my computer.  So in the morning, it doesn't know any emails so I have to look them up in old emails, cut and paste, or even look on business cards.

By the end of the day, I have a couple dozen back in and they will be remembered and suggested all day.  But when I turn off the computer and come back in the morning?   It starts all over.

IT guy says it could be a registry error and I have checked just about EVERYTHING in the outlook settings.

Please help?

Let me see if I clearly understand...

Your Autocomplete function is not working.  When you start to type a person's name in the To: field, it used to popup with an autocomplete of the email address that you sent to and that's no longer working?

What version of Outlook?  2007 or 2010?

What Operating System?  XP or Win7?

Yes, that's it.

I don't see the normal "about" selection.  But when I hit search/help - it says "getting started with 2010" - so I assume it's that.

But it DOES work.  It will remember them throughout the day.  By the time 5pm comes around, it's populated again from all my emails I sent out.  But the list get's wiped out when I turn off the computer and restart.  So no names come back at the start of the day and I have to repopulate.

Are you confirming Outlook 2010?  I'll assume yes.  Your Outlook client isn't importing your nickname file each time Outlook launches:

Try this.

Close out of Outlook.  All the way.  Make sure it's not running in the task tray.

Start circle --> Run --> and type in the following:    outook.exe /importNK2

Outlook should launch.

Send out a couple of emails and test the Autocomplete.  Then reboot your computer and launch Outlook.  Start to type in an address that you did prior to the reboot and see if it Autocompletes.

I'll give it a shot.  Also figured out that the computer doesn't even need to shut down to lose it.  Simply closing outlook loses the list because when I did what you said, all my contacts I emailed this morning were gone.

Going to reboot now and check.

Thanks.
