So has anyone been following the news on this? Looks like it's still leaking radiation into the ocean.

Random article I was reading on it.

Don't order the item called "Two Headed Fish" on the Sushi menu.

The scary thing is I saw an article in the Idaho Statesman the other day that had a picture of some salmon that had been caught in the snake river with what appeared to be debris from Japan in it's stomach.

So me thinks this is quickly going to become the worst nuclear disaster in history.

ETA: Just realized it's a subscriber article.

Here's an article about the article.

First, they know a uncontrolled reaction is, or is not taking place. My guess it isn't. Depends on what their thermal scans say. Fukashima isn't Chernobyl.

The core of two reactors were exposed, compromised, breached. What ever you want to say. So those fission products are loose. There is an inventory of what is there so to speak. And yes, it's a lot. But it wasn't exactly the same as Chernobyl. Chernobyl has a graphite core, which is what is needed to "complete" so to speak the reaction. So it continued to react, and still is to this day producing heat. That heat alone was a problem to deal with.

Fukashima is or isn't producing heat and it has to be dealt with. If it isn't producing heat from fission, then it is just a matter of clean up. It IS producing heat from decay, but that is not the same. And I hate to say it, but the solution to pollution is dilution. As bad as radiation leaking into the sea is...it is leaking into the sea. Water is a very good shield, and the ocean is much bigger than Japan and it's ground water.

Without a doubt a LOT of radioactive material has been released, and it is a HUGE disaster. Now sure where it will rank in the end, but it's big. As far as what the Japanese officials or Tepco are or are not doing, I don't know. It's a mess whether it is being handled right or wrong.

From the article it appears TEPCO isn't donig anything to try and prevent future leaks, but is merely trying to plug holes as they pop up. Most of the info I've read on this over the last few months is that TEPCO has been trying to ignore this and pretend it's no big deal.

I'm sure according to the media that is the case. But do you honestly think they are just ignoring it... and as long as they just do that, Japan will just forget about it?

I don't know what they are, or are not doing. I am going to go out on a limb here and say they are trying to clean it up. Are they doing the best job, or are they trying to cover stuff up, I don't know. Is it a very complicated and gigantic operation to clean up such a site... absolutely it is. See: Chernobyl.
