Hello tomorrow is my first brick. My training plan says bike 20 mins and run 10 mins. I have a reverse sprint tri (5k run, 10mile bike, 400m swim ) So do I run first then bike with no rest in between? Do I do the same for bike-swim brick?

Any pointers?

I'm 48 ,female and this is my first tri.

Thanks.

The primary benefit to doing a brick workout is the mental benefit you get from knowing how your body will react to changing sports. Since your first tri is a reverse I think it would be a good idea to do the bricks in reverse as well.

...just take the time to rinse off real quick between the bike and swim brick.

Specificity in training. I'd do it in reverse so your body is used to the change of run to bike.

Good luck In your first tri!

The only thing I would add is don't cheese the transition in training. Minutes matter. Your legs will feel different with only 1-2 munutes of rest vs. 5 minutes.

Thanks for your input. I did my first brick tonight. Got rained on (although it hardly rains here in the desert). It was also windy. I will also remember to wear a hair band.

My legs didn't feel tired when I biked after the run (about 2 minute break). However, it felt weird running with bike shorts. I wore my swimsuit , then leggins, then the bike shorts. So on race day, I don't have to change into something except take the leggins off and the shorts off for the swim.

I don't know if I need a tri suit. The swimming is an indoor pool. I like the extra padding of the bike shorts because it protects my butt from chafing I also used a cream (as prescribed in one of the forums).

Have you tried tri shorts? They have a thinner chamois that is comfortable to run in but still provides a little padding on the bike. They look too thin to be comfortable to bike in, but I'm happy in mine for 90+ minutes. Mine were $29 on eBay (new). You can swim in them too, either over your swim suit or with a tri top or sports bra - eliminates the need for costume changes

I will try the try shorts. Minutes matter for me cause I'm still too slow in all three. This will knock down minutes in transition.
