Subject: Flat Spotting tires on Trainer
Afternoon All,

Plenty of time being spent on trainer, which is good. I have been pulling a lot of rubber off the tire, which now has a significant flat top. I can see the wear holes put in to determine tread depth.

How square is too square? What are the disadvantages to this? Obviously they should be rounded as they are delivered.

Any insight is helpful.

do not ride your road tires on the trainer.

What do you do? Have a separate wheel, or just change out your tires?

i use old crappy tires on the trainer, could use a different wheel or just change the tire.

If you can still see the holes, you're fine. They will square off riding on the road as well. That said, a direct drive trainer will pay for itself over time just in tire replacements. I never used a separate trainer tire but I went through a few clinchers each year.

I have a separate wheel and cassette, and run old tires.  Easy to swap out.

I don't have a separate wheel so I've just simply just swapped out for a new tire. Helps me practice.......

Yes, use old tire OR buy a trainer tire. I've used mine for the last 7 years and I ride my trainer 3x/week most of the year.
