That is fantastic.  When I watched Phelps in the Olympics,  it seemed like his stroke went, 1,2,pause,1,2,pause.  Looking at the animation, his stroke timing is odd.  Hmmmm.

It does appear that Phelps pauses, however his pull is way stronger on his right side causing him to catch way more water to the right and making that side seem slower. You will see elite swimmers do this.Alexander Popov has a smooth stroke.

Phelps "loppy" stroke is caused from him only being able to breathe on one side of his body...my wife's uncle is the exact same way...if you put them side by side they have exactly the same stroke...but damn they are fast...

You dont think he is able to breath on his rt side,woooow!

I swim the same way,and breath to both sides, never been called loppy before!

No I don't think he can breath on his left side...he always breathes to the right (everytime I have seen him swim anyhow)...when I was lifeguarding I saw that alot so assumed it was the cause...most of the folks I saw that only breathed from one side had a 1-2 pause stroke...
