I'm seriously considering this one - heard good and bad about it but its about an hour from home, and would give me another crack at an Oly before y-e.  Not quite ready for HIM and would like to improve on some things from NJ Tri - especially fueling up and trying to maintain some strength for the 6 mile run.

Small race - sandy trail run - they also have an almost Half Iron Man on Sept 20 (I'm not ready for it and it's the day before War At Shore which I'm in on so passing on it).  Less than a dozen listed as entered for the near HIM.

I have been tempted to do these..and I still may. Running through the Jersey Barrens is supposed to be a lot of fun. My only hesistation is that I heard that the water down there ain't the cleanest in the world (not contaminated or anything..just murky/slimy). Just hearsay though...

I upped for it - it's a Cedar Lake - probably alot like Wenonah - when the water is hot, lakes can feel a little slimy - but heyyy - we triathletes - thats part of the fun - just suck it up and swim yo!

A little slime can't stop us!

any sort of unpleasantness in the water I try to push out of my head quickly and get back to concentrating on my stroke is what I do.

From director - sent to jstriclub.org :

Daniel Simmons:

Less than two weeks left to sign up for the Olympic Distance Triathlon, scheduled for September 6th, 2008!

Please tell family, friends, and neighbors now about the race and to sign up as soon as possible!

If you have not signed up for the upcoming race, you still have plenty of time. Applications on-line are available at http://www.active.com/ or on our website http://www.pinebarrenstri.org/

Unfortunately, due to the lack of interest in the Long Distance Triathlon, scheduled to be held on September, 20th, 2008, we may have to cancel. At the present time, we have only 9 registries for the race, and we need at least 50 minimum.

Upcoming Races:

Saturday, September 6, 2008

Olympic Distance Triathlon

1 mile swim, 24 mile bike, 6 mile run

Entry fee: $85.00 USTA Member - $95.00 Non USTA Member

Does anyone have any information on this tri??? I haven't received any emails or found anything online that talks about when to pick up my race packet, waves, course info, etc.

Thanks so much!

packet pick up from 7:30 to 8:30 am - same day - Saturday - only about 100 registered so not sure they are doing waves - run is in woods on sandy trail - sounds like it will be wet sand.  Bike is supposedly relatively flat I think.  Lake is cedar so - some people find that unpleasant but if you practiced at Lake Wenonah - you should be ok with it.

The big challenge sounds like will be the weather - good practice for stormy race it sounds - I was going to swim sans wetsuit but with the weather likely kicking in - think I will indeed suit up.  It might not be a good day for a pr.

Dear ROBERT WITANEK:

We are well aware of the Hurricane approaching.

If it does not hit our venue before noon, the race WILL GO ON - RAIN or SHINE.

More than likely, there will be rain.

If you have guests or spectators attending the event, there is a roofed pavilion they can wait in to stay dry. There are no chairs available, so please inform them to bring a chair.

 Packet pick-up is between 7:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. RACE BEGINS AT 9:00 a.m.

We look forward to the event.

Good luck,

Bruce J. Perazzelli, Race Director
