Hey All...

I got and have been using the TI DVD and it is really great.  I wanted to know if anyone has any experience wih a TI class.  I found an instructor not too far from where I live and wondering if it is worth it for the lessons.  My guess would be yes... but I am looking to see if anyone has taken a TI certified class and how you liked it (as well as..  were there benefits over the DVD).

I also recently got the TI video and in just under a month my swimming has improved dramatically. It would have taken me 3 months to get where I am now in 3 weeks.

I was wondering about the class also, but at $475 for 1 weekend what do they teach in the class that they don't on the video? Perhaps the one-on-one and filming the stroke.

I would also be interested in hearing what people have to say about the class.

I haven't taken the group class but I am getting private TI lessons and they are extremely helpful imo. The videos are great but I feel that we often think that what we are doing is what we saw on the DVD and in reality, its not (myself included). So having someone there to correct your positioning, offer additional tips, answer the questions you have now (or will formulate as you get new info) is all a great thing of course. And so as much good as I think coaching provides (group or 1 on 1) the $$ value is unfortuantely something that we all can differ on and that's the hardest correlation since everyone's $ value structure is different.

Ever have a personal trainer in the gym, or a tutor for something? If you have & you think those experiences were helpful/insightful, then you'll probably find benefit & value from instruction. If your swim experience, form or speed is still not where you think it should be and you've exhausted friends' advice and reviewing TI DVD note taking while in the pool  then this is probably your next step and you'll more than likely make gains and be happy [I hope :]

I don't often get a chance to follow back up on threads I've posted to so if you have any specific questions feel free to PM me ~

Thanks.  I have signed up for next Thursday for a 5 hour session.  I worked with a personal trainer for 6 months and was the best experience of my fitness life...  so you are right.

Will follow-up on the thread after the class.  I spoke to the instructor and he actually does iron man (not to mention last year he did the race I am doing in October)...  so I bet he will be a great asset!

I'm a beginning swimmer and took the weekend workshop. I think it was worth the money. Gave me clear guidance on the "major" deficits in my stroke and what to focus on for greatest improvement.

I did an Oly swim before the worshop in July at a 2:38 / 100m pace. Just finished an Oly this weekend (month and a half later) at a 2:10 / 100m.

I read the book, watched the DVD's, took the weekend workshop, and found a TI style coach. Total overall cost was less than $800, best fitness investment I ever made.

I did the weekend workshop and thought it was the best thing I had ever done for my swimming.  I had already read the book, watched the DVD, and tried the drills.  There's just nothing like having someone there to actually watch and correct you as you're swimming.  The workshop I went to in Michigan included a generous amount of underwater filming.  We saw ourselves on film four times during the two day workshop.  There's something about seeing yourself on film... I was doing things I would have sworn I wasn't doing.

I'm not sure if all the workshops do filming but Leah Nyikes at Liquid Lifestyles (Michigan/Ohio) did a great job.

I tried following the book and doing the drills but i was swimming at 26 strokes a lap for 25 yards. After the 2 day workshop i was down to 14 strokes per lap. There were 4 instrucotrs and 20 students . One of the instructors was Terry's daughter. The other was a guy who had swum or was planning to swim the English channel and the other 2 instructors were people who liked the TI method and had taken the TI coaching course.
Some people have issue with the price of the weekend but even if you include my hotel and food for the weekeend its still cheaper than what i have spent on running and biking this year.
