Subject: just wanted to say..... THANKS!

what a weekend! (I'm still on my "high"

...first tri ever..  MightyMan Montauk (east end of Long Island, NY) - great race, great people.

The attitude of the fellow tri-er's, both pro and newbie was addicting in itself. Truly awesome.

I'm not overly happy with my times (but now I have a baseline to work from) - and I had a great time during all the events!

I just wanted to throw out a HUGE "thanks" to everyone on BT for answering my newbie questions (as silly as some of them may have been), the great tri-content, and the overall encouragement I got from everyone.

I'm already sizing up my next one!  ..cheers!   -Mike

trimore - 2008-10-06 9:37 AM let the addiction begin.

*lol* that's EXACTLY what someone said to me during setup!  ...im so addicted

MKAH - 2008-10-06 9:53 AM Great Job, give us the details....

Thanks!  ..like I said, not overly happy w/ my times - but going to work on these!

..here it goes...

Sprint Distance

Clock Time1:30:21
Overall Place351 / 492
Swim19:25 (this is better than I thought I was going to do, I even felt like I was holding back a little)
Swimp355
T15:42 (not exactly sure what I was doing.. peeling wetsuit? drying off? GU'ing? *shrug* - way toooo long tho..  needs work.)
T1P472
Bike39:43 (I have a trek bike with straight handlebars, ponder clip-on aeros?)
Bikep360
T21:16 (this is a little better, thanks to everyone's "brick" training advice)
T2P161
Run24:16 (I feel pretty good about this run..  but want faster)
Runp244

So, I clearly have work.. I'm going to try and set some realistic goals.

Thanks again! -cheers.

I'm not sure what's not to be happy about.  I think those times are respectable; especially for a first tri.  I'll be doing my first tri in 3 weeks.  It's an Oly.  My goal is to beat 3 hours, so I'll be grateful if those times are my splits, but it's going to be tough.

Congratulations on your first race!

I agree, nice times for a 1st race. You WILL be addicted. Next thing you'll do is start looking at new bikes, join a master's swim group. Start interval work at the track, group rides on the weekend, drool over carbon fiber tri-bikes, look at scheduling vacations around your tris. It is a very, very slippery slope. Welcome to the club!

Thanks!   ..yes, I am being hard on myself.   But thanks for the kind words.

haha!  ..the addiction thing is too funny (already drooling over bike "porn" - sizing up gear!) BTW: the wife was so inspired by the good vibe, that she wants to start training - which I fully support.

first things first, I *know* I need new running sneakers (my current pair is more than a year old.. and I hear that's not too good for the feet... nevermind the odor)  :-)

...cheers!  -mike

Congrats, Mike!

The Mighyman Sprint was my first tri as well (the other two I registered for in Sept. both got cancelled due to tropical storms).  That said, I was full of anticipation and so excited to finally get one under my belt.  My bonehead newbie moment was rushing off in T2 to the run with my helmet still on!  Fortunately a race official pointed it out to me and my rack wasn't too far away to go back.  Despite my blunder, I was pleasantly surprised with my overall time and now I feel totally addicted as well.  I am so sad to have to wait until next season to do another!  What will we do all winter??? sigh.

Congratulations and great job! I was dead last in my age group in 2005. Now I sometimes even get a podium spot. Persistence, hard work, and keep on tri-ing is all it takes. And yes, self analyzing is part of that process, so go ahead and self analyze away. Just remember you did GREAT!

BTW, you can practice T1 before any bike ride and before bricks. During peak training weeks, I make every workout include a T1 and/or a T2. Just put all your crap in your back yard, then being your workout at the top of your driveway. It makes a huge difference if you are doing those little tasks alot and making them habits.

PS: I don't usually practice peeling the wetsuit off. Too much trouble getting the darn thing on! That one just comes with time, I guess.
