For those of you that have done  Ironman Louisville - is the bike course suitable for a disc rear/808 front? Thanks

I think it depends on:

A) How fast you plan on riding

B) Can you handle strong cross winds
- I rode 808s this year and nearly wrecked a few times- but then again I weigh 150 so there isnt a ton of mass to throw around into the wind.

C) What do you want to ride?

A) Doesn't matter.

B) A deep section wheel will cause more of an issue than a disc in a cross wind (unless you are crazy light and on the slower spectrum).  I ride 999's and weigh 175 and have almost been blown over when the wind pushed the FRONT wheel almost out from under me with a strong gust.  The disc will actually help stabilize you (again with the caveat above).

C) Exactly.

That's the setup I rolled with at IM WI and it's just as if not more hilly than IM KY.  As Rick pointed out, it's the front wheel you have to worry about, not the disc.

Abso-freakin'-lutely!!!  There is nothing about the L-ville course that would suggest any reason for not using a disk!!  The hills are manageable, thus weight is not an issue....the course is not wide open so crosswinds are limited (be aware of them and you will have no problem!), and the benefit of a disk on the rolling/flatter parts of the course are worth any issues you might encounter above....

My .02 YMMV!

Daremo: I proposed the question of how fast he planned on riding because IMO, if your not going to ride 19+ then the extra watts/ energy to get the disc around may actually slow someone down. Although I could be completely wrong on this, just a thought.

Good luck nonetheless.
