yea, I'm not suprised.  many motorists see cyclists as nothing but a pain in the butt!  I've ridden Triple By-pass a couple different years when someone dumped small tacks on Squaw Pass, which resulted in flats for many of the riders.  I think as cyclists we need to be smart and do out best not to annoy drivers.  Which means don't ride 2-abreast when traffic is near, follow traffic laws, etc.  When you see someone on a bicycle doing something careless and stupid...say something to them.  Don't give people like the one that made the flyer more ammo.  Ride safe!

Oooops ... thanks Josh.  I should have looked in COJ first.  I have this ride on my schedule and I'm so bummed that the motorists will be out in force.  I hate to pull out but I don't want to put myself in a dangerous situation and crash into one of them.  Can't we just make nice and share the road.

Ugh, sorry to hear you were planning to do it. It sounds like with the police presence, it should hopefully be ok. Let us know how it goes, if you do it!

This makes me want to participate in the ride!  I hope this really backfires on the motorists -- media attention might help ensure that the police enforce the new laws.  Or give more a-holes ideas about harrassing cyclists Yell

Quick question on the recently signed bike bill: I believe those laws technically don't go in to affect until early August; can the new laws be enforced now? Just curious, as I'm no legal expert, and I still find myself getting buzzed from time-to-time on the canyons around here by cars.

I assume you're right.  There are already laws to protect cyclists tho, and a # you can call to report harrassment/reckless driving.  Check out http://bicyclecolo.org/ for more info.

I'm riding this ride regardless.  Should be interesting to see how the state patrol deals with the mountain rednecks.  I'll take having the road blocked to getting buzzed off the road anyday.  Maybe I'll ride my cross bike so I can ride around them in the woods.

I hope to see others there.
