Bike Stores in Lincoln

Pro  4339    Husker Nation |  Subject: Bike Stores in LincolnI've noticed an approximate 50% increase in bike stores in the Lincoln Area. Before, the only ones I was aware of were The Bike Rack off 33rd & Van Dorn [Pioneers maybe?] and CycleWorks on 27th & Vine-ish. Now there are two others that I haven't been to yet, both in SW Lincoln. One is called Bike Pedalers at 16th & Pine Lake and the other is Joyride Bicycles a mile away at 16th & Old Cheney. Anyway, not sure why I started this thread, but figured I'd throw those out there if anybody's looking for more options in Lincoln. I personally LOVE CycleWorks over Bike Rack, but that's just me [and the $40 they saved me over BR for taking off my cyclocross brake levers]. |

Veteran 329 Beatrice NE. | Subject: RE: Bike Stores in Lincoln I use The Bike Rack at 33rd and Pioneers when I need a tune up. I got my bike from their Omaha store, so tune-ups are free. I have bought stuff from other shops too. None of them seem to have a lot of tri-specific stuff though. Scheels probably has the most tri gear of all of them in Lincoln. |

Bike Rack Bike Pedalers (2 locations) Monkey Wrench Cycle Works (2 locations) Joy Ride I wouldn't call them all "bike SHOPS" though. Bike Rack and Cycle Works are much more bike Stores then they are shops. Sure you can get a service done, but they are totally dependant on volume sales. (I hate Scheels too....support your LBS!!!!!)  |

I am constantly bringing in bikes (Kids are rough on them) and they take great care of me, are quick and are inexpensive (and lots of times don't even charge me for minor repairs). My wife had taken a bike into the bike shop on 33/Pioneers (forget the name) to fix a broken brake line and they wanted over $100 to do the repair. Some garabage about they couldn't just fix the brake but had to do an overhaul as well. Scheels did the brake repair for under $12. Oh and that bike is still running fine, in fact it is the big ugly green bike I ride in the tri's ( At least until I can afford a real bike) |

The mechanics get commision on how much they sell. Most of the bigger shops do this.... I have a friend that took two bikes to Bike Masters in Omaha thinking it was "my friends shop" I told him to go to (Xtreme Wheels) and spent $400 on two tune-ups. He paid the bill feeling silly. I would have thrown a fit LOL!! I am sure Scheels has some good folks working there, I would just rather support the smaller local buisiness. The bulk of the money you spend at Scheels goes out of town. All the money you spend at the LBS, stays in Nebraska. |

Veteran 113 Fremont | Subject: RE: Bike Stores in Lincoln I have no problem with supporting local businesses, the same could be said for buying an "American Automobile", but the bottom line is going to the place that gives you the best service and bang-for-your-buck. As for the Bike Rack in Omaha, I really liked their selection, but it's too bad one of their employees had to YELL at my 4yr old son for trying to get on one of their bikes, and thus having to listen to my son cry all the way back to Fremont because he felt so bad about it. This wasn't the first issue we had with this same employee/manager...so they will never get my business again. |

New user 68 Lincoln | Subject: RE: Bike Stores in Lincoln I am lucky enough to have one of the newly opened shops in my backyard, and my office is 2 blocks from scheels. I have to say the bike dept at scheels really impressed me. they took all kinds of time explaining fit, size, tires, etc even though I had told him I already bought a new (cheap) road bike. he had all kinds of helpful information for me. Because of this I wouldn't rule them out if they had a good deal on a tri bike next year.... At the LBS a block from my house they acted like I had come from another planet when I told them what my bike was. and told me I should not waste my time or money buying accessories for this bike, I should just wait til I can afford one of their bikes. In their defense they did get me in while I waited to true the wheels of my new bike and found some nice road shoes I can use in spin class and on the bike. I have also bought tubes and stuff for mine and my kids' bikes from them. (so I support the locals) Point of this ramble? I don't know. go to where you get the best service, value, and to those who have what YOU want not what THEY want to sell you. |
