I think you will find PLENTY of endorsements around this site for the Garmin Forerunner 305. It has some drawbacks, but overall, it is the best and most popular device for what you mentioned. As far as interference from your partner's device, I wouldn't worry about it. Most of the heart rate straps are coded now so there is no problem with other straps. I have used mine with groups of other bike riders that also had Forerunner 305s and I never noticed a thing. You can do little searching on the internet and find them for around $160 now.

Never heard of an interference problem with the 305's, as mentioned the signals are coded.
If you don't mind going used you can probably get one for around $ 120-140 as the 310 XT is coming out and a lot of people will be selling their 305's to get that.
I just got a 305 about 4 wks ago and love it. It does everything they say and more. |
