Subject: "Back" in the saddle, and ... aerobars on a super-sprint?
Hooray!  I'm finally getting back into it...albeit very slowly!  I have switched my Oly distance for Tri-ing for Children's to the super-sprint since it is what I can handle at this point (without injuring myself again).  My aerobars are still on my bike from when I was training for a bunch of olys and my 1st half-iron (which none are going to happen for me).  I feel odd having them on for the super-sprint.  Should I take them off?  It seems....like overkill.  I don't think I'll be able to do more than a sprint this season.  I probably shouldn't care if they stay on.  Thoughts?

So, if you want to read my summer story (aka, my mental dump) here it is:

June 4th: last time I trained with a Donkey group...back was hurtin' a bit after a tough training week.
June 5th: Day off with little to no pain.
June 6th: 50 minute run with little pain, nap in the afternoon, back goes out barely can walk, stand, lay down, etc.

Since June 6th and up until two weeks ago (in the midst of phys therapy) I couldn't do anything in the way of training (let alone "normal" living: it sucked!  I kept thinking I'd be back soon, then the mental defeatism set in and it was hard to think or talk about tris let alone be at them to even get motivated.  So it wasn't until mid-July that I scratched my entire season and decided to enjoy the summer as-is.  I know others have had much worse happen, and I probably shouldn't complain.  But it seems on the eve of my first tri of the season I need to dump all this and think of the fun I will have and have had doing tris, the camaraderie and new people I've met, and the motivation the training and sport provides.  I appreciate what I have missed, both during the injury and now that I'm slowly getting back to normal.

Hope to see many of you out at Tri-ing!
Don

Have a blast on your first Tri-umphant return.   I'd just leave the aero's on.  You can intimidate the others

Good for you Don!

I know how you feel - I feel like a poser in this group.  Had knee surgery in late April and am slowly coming back to my previously slow pace!  No tri's booked yet for me, but I am hoping for one soon!

Have a blast tomorrow - I was out there today with my son at the kid's race and the course is very nice.  I say keep the aerobars too!

Thanks for the wishes!

I've been taught many things during my time off.  The feeling like a poser thing hits home a bit too.

Hope to see you out there soon.

I wondered what happened to you. Welcome back - no poser feelings necessary. Injuries happen to us all from time to time. We're here to support you even when you're injured. Go out and have a blast today.

Agree with Deanna Donkette here.  You played it smart and took some time off.  That recovery time is needed sometimes - nothing wrong with that.

Thanks again all, and for the welcome back!  It's amazing how time can get away from you when you think you want to train again and life finds ways to fill it up.  Still afraid to run anything more than a mile and a half - I'll get there and more.

I had a fun time on Sunday and really gave what I had.  It was tougher than I thought by the time I got to the run.

Jim, it was nice meeting you too.

Hope to see you at an event or training!
