Im currently running in a pair of VFF and I have a Dualthon coming up in about 4 weeks. I can run 2 miles easy in them but after that my calves are killing me and its a 2mile run 13 mile bike then 3 more mile run. Anyone know of any shoes with a little more padding in them?

What were you running in before the VFF and how long have you been running in the VFF's?

I wore asics nimbus for about a week. I ran barefoot 2 weeks prior to getting the VFF and about 4 weeks on the VFF

I don't use them but have heard good things about the Nike Free from those who use them. More of a shoe but allows the same barefoot running style. And of course there are the much more expensive Newtons.

Have you been over training? Your calves might be hurting because of the running style (forefoot) and doing too much too quickly in them when you started to use them. I couldn't tell from your logs . . .

How do you like your VFFs otherwise? I've been thinking about getting a pair.

If your still getting sore after only 2 miles your not fully adjusted to the lower heels yet. With 4 weeks till race day that doesn't leave you a lot of time to adjust and be at full race speed. I would still run in your VFF a little but mostly run in your old shoes if they dont hurt your feet. Finish the race in your old shoes and then make a gradual switch over to the VFF with no races looming so you have plenty of time. I wouldn't buy an in-between shoe unless you really have too as you will still have to get used them also.

The thinnest lightest racing flats will be closest to the VFF's but there are some flats that are thicker also. The Nike Free and Newtons are closer to trainers than the racing flat kind of shoes.

I'm waiting on some VFF kso's right now... want to try them for trail running. What did you think of the barefoot running ?

I run about 3 times a week I was doing 2 times. I was thinking I might run the first 2 miles in my VFF then switch to the asics I havent decided yet. But I love the VFF. I dont like wearing shoes cause my feet get really hot all the time and its just uncomfortable. I only got one blister the first time I ran in them and nothing after that. The only thing that sucks is if you land on a good sized rock it still hurts, but other than that they rock.

I just started running in Nike Free and, so far, am very happy.  I've gone from MC+ to Nike Free and am faster and injury free... so far.

I picked up some VFF KSO's and gave them a go tonight . . . really like them! Will cross train with an ASICS DS trainer.
