I totally hear you. For the love of anything holy, let it die! Can you believe what Michael Schiavo must be going through? Hopefully he didn't think the parents would be so kind as to back off a little after the whole ordeal.

And as for Jeb Bush, I can't type anything for fear of Big Brother. Sticking his nose where it doesn't belong. AGAIN. Is this lunatic actually considering a run for Pres someday? Save us.

I live in FL and now the parents are going to file suit over the autopsy results.  Can anyone say living will????  Let the poor woman rest in peace.  She was brain dead and blind.

I hope that one thing (at least!) good will come of her ordeal: education on living wills. GET ONE. I got mine a few months ago. Gave a copy to my GP and my OB/GYN, plus mailed seperate copies to my aunt, brother, and parents. I kept the notarized version in our fireproof/waterproof safe. You can download lots of free living wills of the internet...very simple, very quick.

What is really scarry is that I know people that still think it was wrong to remove her tube. Even after the autopsy report they are still saying that if she was breathing independently she was alive. (There is this thing called a brain stem, folks...)
One of the final factors that caused me to break off an engagement actually had to do with this issue. He said that even if I gave specific instructions for this kind of situation, he would fight tooth and nail against them. He was an intellegent person with advanced degrees, but was still was not able to apply that to the situation (not to mention the fact that he TOLD ME that he would INTENTIONALLY disregard my wishes).
I was raised by a neurologist and have spent plenty of time working in hospitals myself, so the concept of brain death is just fact to me.

Well... I still think it was wrong to remove her feeding tube.

From the reports I read about the autopsy, and I haven't read them deeply, Terri was brain damaged but not brain dead.

We have a major debate going on now about what constitutes human life and what consitutes human personhood.

There is no doubt that Terri was alive when she had her feeding tube removed. The question becomes, was she a person who ought to have been protected by law.

This same question is at the heart of embryonic stem cell research. There is no doubt that a human embryo is biologically a human being. The question is whether or not it is a person.

The fact that Terri would not have recovered from her injuries is irrelevent. Was she a person? At the very least, I can't prove that she wasn't.

See this thread.
