Subject: RE: Outer Banks poolsWith Danielle and Earl ripping (pun intended! ) through the Atlantic, be very careful of rip currents. I'm a pretty strong swimmer, but got caught in one last year for the first time ever. I had my eight year old daughter with me and it was very disconcerting! Did the right things, swam parallel to shore etc. and ultimately made it out without any assistance, but it wasn't a pleasant experience - suddenly like swimming in wet concrete!. Be careful! Soundside is a good bet for open water work. As for pools - other that the Nags Head Y, everything I can think of is private/semi-private. If you're renting, very often the rental agency can hook you up. The Beach Club in Nags Head keeps a lap swimming lane open. Roger |
