 I have done the olympic distance last season, the swim is a lake swim with a long run to T1 on trail path...on the swim the first buoy isnt verry far out so swimmers tend to bottleneck at the first turn, bike is a 10km bike loop, so we go 4 times around somewhat hilly... and the run is a 2.5 trail run around the lake so 4 times around... the bike is pretty challenging and the run is nice there is a part that is out and back so you can see whos ahead and whos behind you...  it is a great race and has elite athletes as well as beginners...  it is well organized and a great event.

Hey!  I haven't done this race before but am looking forward to it.  It will be my first Olympic distance race.  You mentioned a long run from the swim to T1 on a trail - will I need some sort of footwear for that run or can it be done barefoot ?

I have done it barefoot... when you walk up to the lake it is a bit hard to walk on, but out of the swim running up to T1 you dont really notice the crushed gravel path... some people wore flip flops to the swim exit and put them on as they exited the water... it depends on how sensitive you are on running barefoot to T1... I will walk to the lake and run from the swim exit to T1 barefoot again this time.

 

What is the swim start like? Do you start in the water or run in? Do both men and women go at the same time? etc.....

yes men and women start at same time, oly dist. start before sprint dist... its a rectangle swim u do 2 loops and the first bouye isnt too far out so it tends to bottleneck on the first turn....
