It's been AGES since I was there, but if it is still open Scotty's Castle was fun to tour. Ubehebe Crater is up by there and was pretty amazing if you are into geology. One of my best memories is laying on top of a big flat water tank with friends (near our campground) and looking up at the night sky. We could clearly see the Milky Way, and watched satellites go over, falling stars, etc. Really cool. We also hiked Mosaic Canyon - a neat canyon with really beautiful polished marble walls that had been totally smoothed by the water. Swimming at Stovepipe Wells was fun too, though it looks like Furnace Creek has a pool. We tent camped and at the time Stovepipe Wells would let you have a day swimming pass for $3 or so. I was on a college Biology/Geology camping trip over spring break (I said it was ages ago!), which explains a lot of what we went to see.  Have fun! The night sky is like nowhere else.

It's really a neat place. Go to the dunes before dawn for really nice pictures/views as the sun rises. Dress warm, we froze in January. If you have a handheld GPS, take it. You'd be amazed at all of the abondoned mines that pop up in the area.

I should have added that we are both geologists.

You could always watch the mirages as you hike across the desert, panting "water, water"  I guess I have seen too many movies.  There prolly are some bones of victims out there.  They find them out in the desert all the time around here.

You could go scuba diving. Seriously. You can go see the boulders that move (probably blown by the wind) and then there are the singing dunes. Those would be my top 3 things.
