first off, thank you for your service!

my dad died in viet nam, my mom passed away in may 2010. while we were cleaning up her house, everything was split up between my brothers and sisters.

my wife and i are building a house and want to make a shadow box that displays dad's flag, beret, medals, ribbons, etc. but most of that stuff is now with my brothers and sister.

a few people have told me there is a website that will be able to tell me all the medals and such my father earned but they could not remember the website

so, could someone please post a link or point me in the right direction? i still live in fayetteville (ft. bragg) so i should be able to go to one of the many military supply stores locally to purchase the medals, correct?

thanks for your help!

If you are next of kin, you should be able to get replacements free of charge along with complete service records detailing all units and assignments. I have had mine replaced twice now along with my ribbons and medals.

For your fathers service records:

Two options:

http://www.archives.gov/records-mgmt/initiatives/erm-overview.html is the site for the Department of Defense National artifacts.  You can find the right people to contact to get a copy of your Dad's DD214, which will have all of his awards and commendations.

There are several sites that you can do your own legwork.  In either case you will end up going through a military supply store (usually online) and replacing the items.  In the case of medals of valor, some of them must be provided through your DoD rep (you can't just go online and buy a MOH).

I just want to add that I think what you're doing is really cool.

When you get all the medals make sure you put them in the right order as well.

Wow, that's really weird.  I was just in COJ this morning and it was at the top of the list, but it looks like I was the one who resurrected it.  lol

I wonder if a spammer popped it up and the mods deleted that post.

I'm usually pretty good at catching the old threads, but the new site let it slip through my filter.  yeah, I blame the new site.
