Subject: i can't believe i'm doing this!
i decided a few days ago, after encouragement from some friends and a thumbs up from my personal trainer that i was going to participate in the danskin triathlon in seattle. unfortunately, my decision was made about 2 hours after registration was closed for the event. i've now found two other events, one in july and one in september and i'm going to begin training in ernest tomorrow. i've printed the 22 week training plan and i'm hoping that i'll be ready for the july event (which is only 17 weeks away), but if not, i know i'll be ready for september!

a little bit about me. i'm a 38 year old woman and i've been morbidly obese for most of my life. i decided to finally make changes to become healthier three years ago and i've lost over 100lbs so far. i still would like to lose another 30lbs or so, but i needed to find a new goal that wasn't scale related for myself. so, doing a triathlon seemed like a great way to get some of this remaining weight off while focusing on being active instead of the scale.

i guess that's it for now. i'm going to go see what other helpful hints i can find on this site!

Welcome to Bt!
You will find a lot of helpfull tips on training and lots of support. Do you know how to use the logs? You can put all your training stats in there so you can witness all the progress you are making.

I am a 36 year old woman, who was asking herself the same question 2 years ago when i entered a first team triathlon (i did the swim part in a river that had not a welcoming current). This year i'm doing the whole thing in solo. I still have some weight to lose but i'm keeping it slow and fun to avoid injury. Good luck on your path to fun and health!

Welcome to BT! What kind of exercise if anything have you been doing, including walking. If you have been somewhat active and if you can swim fairly decently even if you are slow, July may be totally poosible for you. Good luck!

Welcome to BT.  You will find tons of information here to help you get ready for your first tri.  I did my first tri last year, actually ended the year having done 3, two sprint and one Olympic.  Sorry to hear that registration closed just hours before you tried to register.  Good to know you found two others you are going to try for instead.  If you are still looking for a woman's only tri, I know that there are many different womans only tri's around.  I don't know if there is more then the one in Seattle however.

Good luck with your training, and don't forget to use the logs here to get the most use of the site.  Using the logs allows us to see how you are doing with your training and give help and inspiration in you are having problems.  If you can't find an answer to a question you have, feel free to post the question, and you will find many here that will be able to answer just about any question you might have.

Welcome!  I've only recently joined BT, and for many of the same reasons you did.  I'm looking forward to improving not only my endurance, and my times, but to actually competing in a real triathlon.  I've only been here a short time, but so far I found the members to be a very welcoming, supportive group of people.  Whatever your goals or achievements, you will find help, encouragement and applause here.

Welcome to BT, I don't if you have checked out www.reebokwomenstriathlon.com there is a all-women's triathlon on September 10 in Federal Way, Washington. I don't how close that is to Seattle, but check it out if you are not already doing it. I'm doing the one is San Diego on October 15. Good luck with your training.

Since you believed in yourself enough to loose 100lbs, I KNOW you can BELIEVE in yourself enough to cross the finish line of a triathlon.   For most of us here that is what it's about anyway.  The personal victory of crossing the finish line.

HAVE FUN!!!!!!!!
